In 1556 Chiang Mai was overtaken by the Burmese. In 1775 the city was recaptured by king Taksin and became part of the Thai kingdom again. Nowadays Chiang Mai is Thailands Nothern Capital, but you still can see a lot of it’s history. The old city still has it’s old city walls. Chiang Mai has become, a major tourist destination for Thailand . There are hotels and guesthouses for every budget, restaurants for every taste and lots of bars. Temples and museums Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is located just outside Chiang Mai on a hill with beautiful view on Chiang Mai city. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of most important temples in the area. Wat Chedi Luang is a 600 years old temple. Wat Jed Yod was built in the 15th cenury, and is located next to National Museum. Chiang Mai Markets Every day of the week there is a huge night market in Chiang Mai, better known as Night Bazaar . You will find the night market along Chan Klan road. Ton Lamyai is Chiang Mai’s flower market Somphet Market is the food market . Warorot market, at Chiang Moi road, is the largest market in Chiang Mai. Here you will find clothing and food . Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens a small botanical garden along Mae Sa Valley. Chiang Mai ZOO is a nice ZOO with beautiful views on the city. Elephant Conservation Center The Center lies about 70km of Chiang Mai on the route to Lampang. Getting around in Chiang Mai TUK-TUK a quick way to get around in Chiang Mai.
